'Petascale Computing' is a term we continually think about at EigenForge. Petascale refers to a threshold of computing performance (1 Peta FLOP) that only two publically known machines (www.top500.org) in the world have attained to date. It refers to the best of breed, large scale, and marrying together of many individual components into an ecosystem to provide a level of performance and robustness at the very high end of High Performance Computing (HPC). Many organisations now recognise not only the need for HPC but also the need for ever larger HPC sized facilities; aspiring to petascale systems. By bringing together large budgets from several clients and organisations EigenForge will offer a petascale facility: everyone will have access to the best of breed. Large scale systems also bring massive power provision and cost issues. Our Power Efficiency page will demonstrate how even a modest 50kW supercomputer could cost you an extra £120,000 pounds by building and managing your own in-house facility rather than using an EigenForge data centre. ![]() |
